I hope everyone has a wonderful day, full of what delights you!
I just put the final pictures on the disk for mom's digital frame Christmas gift. I've scanned over 100 photos from the albums I smuggled out of her house last week. Now that I'm watching the slide show, I want to scan even more in! I think mom is going to be surprised and really pleased.
More pictures . . .
I bought mom a digital picture frame for Christmas. I've asked family to send me pictures of themselves (yeah, only one has responded - shocking). This morning, while mom was at work, I went over and took all our photo albums (she won't notice, trust me).
I've been pulling old pictures and scanning them. Some are really terrific. Some I don't ever want to see again! Here are a couple of my favorites. I'm sure there will be more.
How are you spending Christmas Day?
Mom and I had a late breakfast at my house this morning. We opened gifts and hung out before going to the movies.
I wanted to see the new Denzel Washington movie, but couldn't believe how long the lines were when we got to the theater. By the time we got up to the ticket window, there were only 30 seats left, which means sitting too close to the screen for my eyes. So we saw Enchanted instead. Which was really sweet . . . enchanting, actually.
After taking mom home, I went to my best friend's house. We had some dinner, opened gifts and played games.
Now I'm home to hang out with my girls. And figure out my new Nintendo DS.
All-in-all, it was a nice day.
From this week's newsletter by Cheryl Richardson:
It's that time of year when many of us get into the spirit of giving -- gifts, donations, our time, our love, or our kindness to others. It's a time when we tend to be more conscious of spreading good cheer and this week I have a way for you to do just that.
I received an email from a brave community member who was honest enough to admit that she had been alone for Thanksgiving and would be alone for
Christmas. She asked if I might be willing to send her a holiday card in the hopes of feeling more connected to others. I was touched by her request and quickly assured her that a card was in the mail. Then I got to thinking...What would happen if I asked everyone in this community to send her a card as a symbolic gesture of our common bond? Rather than receive one greeting from me, I smiled at the thought of her getting lots of cards at a time when she feels so alone. So, I wrote and asked for permission to share her address with you.
If you'd like to feel the joy of connection that comes from caring about another human being, please consider sending a card to Debra. Whether you write a little note, include a favorite quote, or simply sign your name, let's show her that she's not alone. Here's her address:
Debra Stevens
1202 E. Almeria Rd.
Phoenix, AZ 85006-2242And, as you consider this idea, you might think about the people in your life -- someone who may not have the courage to reach out -- and send him or her a message of hope, too. As our weekly quote says: "Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love." I love that idea...
Happy Holidays to you and yours, and to all who need a reminder that we are never alone.
Three years ago, I set out to have 80 people send my mom a card for her 80th birthday. 110 cards later, I can tell you she was thrilled that people who didn't even know her would take the time to send her a card. I know it meant a lot to her, so how about everyone send a card to this nice lady too?
Initially we were going to spend Christmas Day at Linda's, but she needed to reschedule to tomorrow so we are having Christmas Eve dinner instead.
When I told mom we needed to figure out something to do Christmas Day she said, "Let's go to the movies." Well, that's something we've never done before.
I went to the store to buy some traditional meal items for Christmas lunch. Thankfully I called mom to ask a question because she'd already been to the store and bought shrimp. Not what I had in mind, but ok. I have some crab legs in the freezer, so we're having a seafood holiday!
I expect we'll go see The Queen. Mom's been talking about going to see it for a while now.
Then I'll go see my Godson and his sister.
This is the least stressed I've been about a holiday in years. And years. It's nice.
