I had a Kirin beer with my Thai food the other night. Just to test out how I might feel. My heart beat pretty erratically the rest of the night. :-(
What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?
Right now that would be a Grande Eggnog Latte from Starbucks. Yum.
For a full sit-down dinner with several guests, would you rather be the one cooking or do you prefer to just show up and eat?
I'd be the one who is happy to just show up and eat. I'd be happy to bring a side dish or dessert too.
We had a lovely brunch at the Westin today. I was so stuffed when we left. More uncomfortable than I can remember being in ages. I had:
- half a small mushroom and cheese omelet
- half a waffle with strawberries, pecans and bananas
- glass of OJ
- salad (mixed greens, tomatoes, cukes, artichokes, black olives and candied pecans)
- mashed potatoes
- sweet potatoes
- corn bread stuffing
- mixed veggies
- roll & butter
- hot tea
- chocolate dipped strawberries and pineapple
The chocolate fountain was perfect, the right kind of chocolate that tastes good and actually sets.
I told mom on the way home that I am really pleased with how meat has become such a no-event for me. I had no second thoughts about "just a taste" of turkey or ham.
Then I came home, drank a ginger ale and took a nap. All-in-all, a day I am thankful for.
I was at Target on Sunday and came across an unknown brand of cream cheese: American Heritage. One flavor was Cranberry Orange.
Lemme tell you, it is to DIE for. Bits of cranberry and orange mixed in the cream cheese. Yummy for my tummy!
I've had it the last two mornings on my bagel and it has made for a delicious breakfast! I will definitely buy more before the season ends!

Oops. That's more than 10. At one point milk would've been at the top of my list. It's not an essential anymore. What I have in the fridge now expired July 29. Guess I should pour it down the drain and recyle the container.
"Oooooo, Momma, can we get some milk?"
"No, mi hija, it's too expensive."
WTF has this world come to?
Especially now that I am a vegetarian. I need to cook more and rely less on processed food (love Amy's!). This vegetarian thing is making me look at my entire life differently. Now I want to buy organic. From a farmer's market.
I see pictures of all these dishes the local veggies bloggers are making. In addition to being beautiful pictures, the food looks yummy. I want that.
I've always liked to cook. I've just never been very good at it. If I don't follow a recipe to the T, and even maybe then too, you can be assured of a disaster. I'd love to be one of those people who can throw in a pinch of that and a dash of this and have it turn out perfectly.
My mom was not an intuitive or creative cook either. We pretty much had the same simple dishes over and over. I remember a lot of hamburger patties.
I've never had to cook much really. I did when I was home in the summers or after school when I was younger, but I pretty much stuck with the same fare she did. Monkey see, monkey do. And as a single girl it's always easy to come to a bowl of cereal or to just snack.
On Saturday I went to a local farmer's market and bought tomatoes, potatoes, green beans and apples. I've pan fried some of the potatoes with olive oil, salt & pepper, and garlic. Ditto the green beans. They tasted pretty decent.
I want to do that more. Support local growers and eat fresh foods. And learn how to cook.
For the first time ever in my life, I woke up hungry last night. I tried to just roll over and ignore it, but about 30 minutes later I gave up and hit the fridge. I poured myself a large glass of the tall cold white stuff and got two Kashi cookies (love them!). Turned on the TV (there's suprisingly a lot to watch at 3:15a) and ate. My girls were like, What the hell?? We are supposed to be sleeping. So I finished watching Conan, turned off the light and fell right asleep.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Gak! I have to pick one? I have been feasting on Stouffer's ready-made sweet potatoes lately, so that's the first thing that came to mind. Then, of course, it was the desserts. And then turkey. Do I have my priorities straight or what?
My favorite pie:
Winter Fruit Pie
1 lg can crushed pineapple
1 sm box Orange Jello
1 can pie cherries, drained
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 c sugar
¼ c flour
5 bananas, sliced
2 baked pie shells
Bring pineapple, sugar, flour and Orange Jello to a boil. Fold in drained cherries. Let cool. When cool, add pecans and bananas. Pour into baked pie shells, chill until set. Serve with whipped cream or Cool Whip. Also good plain.
I've discovered that I can order and pay for pizza online. Plus they deliver. If they had chocolate chip cookies I'd never have to leave home.
