You know, for someone who wants to use this to keep track of life things, I've not been doing a good job lately.
During the holidays I caught some movies: The Queen, Dreamgirls, Happy Feet, Rumor Has It and Monster House. I also read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, who also wrote Remains of the Day. I quite liked it.
I watched Zathura last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. What can I say? I'm a 12-year-old at heart.
Boy, did I need today. Badly. I have been mentally and emotionally exhausted these last few days. When I woke up today I was brain dead. So I took a me day.
Slept late. Bummed around the house. Went to the vet for Gigi's allergy medicine (they were out!?). Then to Starbucks for some caffeine and the newspaper. Then to Borders for my free birthday dessert (chocolate cream cheese muffin). Then to Barnes & Noble to spend a birthday gift card. Back home for Something New and The Incredibles. And now here. Feeling somewhat more like myself.
Wednesday we had the awful board meeting. Thursday the ED "resigned." Friday we told the staff. Some of whom were down right giddy. Others cried tears of joy. Seriously. Tears of joy. I am a huge hero now. I guess if I am going to take a beating from some board members at least the staff will love me. And as far as I am concerned they are who matters. It's our job to take care of them.
I did C25K three times this week. Once week one and twice week two. Wednesday was almost a breeze. Friday I ran five of the six segments and on some of those I felt like I was almost running uphill. It was hard. I am eight segments into the program (I missed one out of the nine days I should be at now). I know I am going to be behind schedule according to the nine week schedule, but I gotta go at my own pace. I haven't quit yet and that's what matters to me right now.
I got up and did my C25K this morning. I was able to run all the segments. I am supposed to be moving on to week two, but I am hesitant because I'm still not so comfortable with week one yet. I had to push myself, which is an all new thing for me. Usually I let myself slide. I bitched all the way through it, but I did it.
When I got up I turned on my PC to see what the temperature was (and what the "feels like" was). I was really shocked to read about Steve Irwin. It sounds like the chances of his dying in that way are astronomical. Just goes to show, when it's your time, it's your time.
Mom is in the other room watching some of When The Levees Broke. I watched it when it originally came on then recorded it for her because it is must-see TV. Later we are going to watch An Unfinished Life, our Netflix pick of the week.
Over the weekend I read The Anglophile by Laurie Gwen Shapiro. I already had it home from the library when I saw that she's the author of The Matzo Ball Heiress. Both are satisfing chick lit reads
I've had one movie from Netflix forever now. It's one mom really wanted to see that I really didn't care much about. I almost sent it back, but boy am I glad I didn't!
I absolutely loved The World's Fastest Indian. Sir Anthony Hopkins is smashing as New Zealander Burt Munro. He spent years tinkering with a 1920 Indian motorcycle before setting [still unbroken] records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah ~ when he was 67-years-old! It's truly a love story to Burt and the wonderful folks he met along his journey. I highly recommend you watch this jewel.
Mom and I watched The Squid and the Whale today.
Talk about two self-absorbed parents and their two precocious boys. Wowza
I think Laura Linney is an amazing actress.
I'm excited to see that according to her IMDB page she has a movie coming out this year with Rupert Grint. Love him.
Saw Transamerica tonight. Felicity Huffman was awesome. Her performance is complex and empathetic. Two thumbs up.
